A little off the top

Jack has been needing a haircut for a while, so we finally took him to get one today. When we left the Disney on Ice show, the kids played at a nearby fountain, so here are their before pictures.

Jack did not like the clippers, and he cried through most of the haircut. I don't know much about boy haircuts, so I left it up to John. It ended up being much shorter than I was expecting, but I really liked it after I got used to it.

Since we were taking Jack, Mara asked if she was going to get her hair cut as well. I told her that it needed to be trimmed anyway, so I told her she was. She surprised us, though, when she told the stylist she wanted her hair cut to her shoulders. I have always let her make her own decisions about her hair. The only thing I don't really want her to do is have bangs again, but she's against them as well. I tried to convince her to not get so much cut off, but she insisted. The stylist actually left it an inch or two longer than Mara wanted (she wanted it barely touching her shoulders), but I think it will be close to that by the time it dries.

When I took a ruler to the hair she had cut off, it looks like it was 5.5 inches (probably close to 6 inches if I straightened it). However, because the stylist cut up on one side of the ponytail, I know she had more than that cut off.

Dare to Dream

We surprised Mara with tickets to Disney on Ice: Dare to Dream today. It's the show that features Rapunzel along with Tiana and Cinderella. The kids had a lot of fun, but Jack was kind of fidgety for the last half since it was getting into his nap time. However, he really liked the Mickey Mouse hat we picked up for him. Mara got a Pascal (from Tangled) shirt.

The show included a lot of neat things with aerial stunts during the Tangled/Rapunzel portion, and then all of the princess made a special appearance at the end.

Monday, March 26

Our troop's color guard performed a flag ceremony at the beginning of our leadership meeting tonight. The girls did a great job and didn't show many signs of being nervous.

Tuesday, March 27

The home field for Mikey's baseball team is right around the corner from our house, so we went to watch the game for a little bit on the beautiful spring night. Mara had fun playing with Lori, Lani, and their friends at the nearby playground.

Wednesday, March 28

Mara got a scooter for her birthday, and we finally had a chance to take it out and try it today. Since Mara has her new scooter, Jack inherited her old three-wheel one. He doesn't do much "scooting," but he really likes it when I push him on it.

Thursday, March 29

Our Girl Scout troop is learning a dance to perform at the school talent show next month.

Friday, March 30

Mara received a Smashbook from Mike & Myra and family for her birthday. She's had a lot of fun with it so far, and Lori and Lani helped her decorate a page in it after dinner tonight.
