School's Back in Session

Tuesday, August 28

This morning, the Girl Scouts met in front of the school to hand out flyers for our recruiting night tomorrow night. We were back at the school in the evening to get more information on what to expect with second grade, and we finally got a picture of Mara with her teacher.

Wednesday, August 29

We stopped by Cici's for dinner tonight before Mara and I went to recruiting and John took Jack to his kung fu class.

Thursday, August 30

My little "Sparkle Girl" is very happy with what's in style this year since most everything is sparkly, and you can find it in purple too. Hurricane Issac has been hammering the gulf coast this week, and we're getting some clouds (and some rain) from it.

Friday, August 31

It's amazing how grown up Mara and Lani are now. They love talking on the phone (to each other). I also managed to grab a picture of a lot of the cousins together. (And all smiling and looking at the camera too!)

First Day of Second Grade

Today was Mara's first day of second grade. She's pretty excited about the new school year, but I think she was nervous too. She didn't eat much breakfast and didn't have too much to say to me when we got to her classroom.

While her backpack is a little big, I expect it to last her for the rest of elementary school at least since it's a Jansport.

Getting Ready for the School Year

Monday, August 20

Tonight was Mara's last night of gymnastics. While she had fun taking gymnastics this summer, I think we're going to try soccer this fall.

Tuesday, August 21

We've been working on a Girl Scout poster that we can use for recruiting, and we finished it tonight.

Wednesday, August 22

Mara was playing with Savanna in our front yard tonight when she was attacked by a yellow jacket wasp. She ended up with 8-10 stings on her leg.

Thursday, August 23

Tonight was the One-Stop Shop for Mara's school. IT's where you can go and buy pre-packaged school supplies. Sure, it costs more than what we would pay buying the supplies ourselves, but the school gets the extra money, and we don't have the headache of trying to find exactly what's on the school supply list.

Saturday, August 25

With as busy as yesterday was, Mara and I didn't get our annual pedicure to start school, so we went to do that today. Lani came home with us afterward to spend the night. The girls made pizzas for everyone for dinner.

Sunday, August 26

We picked up some sparkly high tops for Mara to wear to school this year. She's really excited about them. They definitely make any outfit she wears "cute." ☺

End of Summer Celebrations

Today was the last day of summer, and it a very busy day for us. I took the day off to spend some time with Mara, including a visit to Daddy's school for lunch. Jack's class had a pizza party to celebrate the end of summer, and Mara finally got to meet her second grade teacher. We closed the day with the Back-to-School Bash at the kids daycare. It was also a time for Mara to say good-bye to her teachers and friends since she'll be staying at her own school for after-school care this year.

Shark Week & Birthdays

Monday, August 13

This week is Shark Week on Discovery Channel. It's been a few years since we've watched it, but we are paying more attention to it this year since we saw the camera they had set up at the Georgia Aquarium to record the whale sharks for this week.

Tuesday, August 14

Our Girl Scout recruiting night is only a couple of weeks away, so we met tonight to assemble the folders of information. John watched the kids on the playground while we worked.

Wednesday, August 15

Jack loves Oreo cookies, so he was happy when we gave him some after dinner tonight.

Thursday, August 16

The girls finished their sit-upons at our Brownie troop meeting tonight. Now, we'll take a couple weeks off to start school.

Friday, August 17

We've been watching Rob & Mindy's bird Ozzy the last week and a half while they are all on a cruise. It took him a little bit of time to get comfortable, but now he'll talk some and occasionally get out of the cage to fly around.

Saturday, August 18

We celebrated Savanna's 7th birthday today at the skate rink. It was the first time skating for some of the girls, but they all had a good time.

Sunday, August 19

We got together today to celebrate Diane and Rob's birthdays. Rob, Mindy, Gracie, and Ben just got back from a cruise and brought everyone back some gifts. They gave Mara some hair clips to thank her for taking care of their bird.
