A year ago, I was given my first awards as a technical writer. I found out today that I won yet another award. This time, I received it for an online help system that I've been working on since 2000. Sadly, I no longer work on that project because it's officially with another division of the company, but I'm still proud to see that all of my effort has resulted in another award.
I didn't think to take a picture of my award before I handed it over to my manager, so here is the logo I can now post on things saying I won. :)

Fruity Kids
Tuesday, June 21
Mara went on her first field trip today with her daycare/summer camp. They went to a minor league baseball game where they all got hats. Mara said it was hot, but she had a lot of fun and wants to go to another game soon.
Wednesday, June 22
Jack has made it clear that grapes are one of his favorite fruits. Mara was eating them for dessert tonight when Jack climbed into my lap and started helping himself. He doesn't even want us to take the time to cut them up, so we just make sure that he only has one in his mouth at a time and keep a close eye on him.
Thursday, June 23
We had a pizza and swimming party for tonight's Daisy troop meeting. The pizza was a reward for each girl selling an average of 150 boxes of cookies each, and the swimming was just because it was fun. :)
Friday, June 24
Mara got her new shoes last Friday, and she already knows how to tie her shoelaces. She actually showed me she knew how to do it when I picked her up from daycare Monday, and now she has it down pat. I was concerned about her having to tie her own shoes, which is why I bought ones that don't really need laces, but I see now that I didn't need to worry about that.
Saturday, June 25
We took the kids to see Cars 2 today. Jack acted like such a big boy, sitting in the theater chair, but we got there too early because he didn't stay in that chair too much after the movie started and ended up falling asleep before it was over. Afterward, we grabbed a bite to eat, and Jack thoroughly enjoyed his watermelon.
Sunday, June 26
Mara's tomatoes finally turned red, and it was time to pick them. I guess they tasted fine because Mara didn't hesitate eating them with her lunch.

13 Years Strong
Thirteen years ago today, I walked down the aisle to marry the love of my life, and what a journey it has been since. It's amazing that it was that long ago because it sure doesn't seem like it, yet I don't really remember what life was like before John and I got together. I frequently think about how John's grandma would always comment on how it seemed like we were made for each other. Sure, we've had our ups and downs, and you'll never hear me say that we don't argue, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I am very thankful to have John in my life, and I'm looking forward to spending many, many more years with him.
Here's a picture Mara took for us when we went out to dinner tonight. We didn't plan on both of us wearing green. Guess that shows how in-sync we are. :)
And because it's no longer just the two of us anymore, here's our oldest enjoying her roll.
And our youngest enjoying his cantaloupe.

Happy Father's Day!
Monday, June 13
The kids went back to daycare today, and I think they were glad to be back. John didn't have any problems dropping Jack off, and I think Mara is really looking forward to all of the field trips she'll get to take this summer.
Tuesday, June 14
After many years together, I had to say good-bye to my curling iron today. I knew it wasn't going to last much longer when it started putting off a funny smell a couple of months ago, and today was the day. The light was on when I plugged it in, but it was still cold when I went to go use it a few minutes later. Luckily, I have a backup one that I can use until I decide what I want to replace it with.
Wednesday, June 15
Mara worked on a Tangled/Rapunzel puzzle tonight and did a pretty good job. Jack just crawled around being cheesy.
Thursday, June 16
Grapes are one of my favorite fruits as long as they are sweet and not sour. I picked up a bunch of grapes at the store, and I thought they would go well with dinner tonight.
Friday, June 17
When Mara came home from daycare Monday, she complained about her shoes being too small. So, we ran by Penney's tonight to pick her up a new pair of Sketchers Tinkle Toes. While I wasn't too sure about the look when they first came out last year, I think now they really fit Mara's personality. Plus, she can wear them with or without the laces, but I think we'll get her some longer laces so she can learn how to tie them.
Saturday, June 18
We started off the day going to a special Father's Day Home Depot Kids Workshop where the kids built mini toolboxes. One of John's new co-workers has a daughter in kindergarten at Mara's school, and he invited us to her birthday party today. Mara enjoyed playing in the city pool and even showed us where she could be on her knees and still breath, and we promised her we would come back since we have rec memberships. Later, John was helping Diane install a design wall in her house, so I took the kids to the splash park down the street.
Sunday, June 19
We celebrated Father's Day today. I think the kids really enjoy John being able to spend more time with them now that he's off weekends. Since it's been a while since I had a picture of my dad and me, I made sure to get one. We'll need to do the same the next time we see John's family.

500 Posts!
When I started this blog 4.5 years ago, I really didn't know what I was going to do with it or what direction I would take. Now, here I am posting my 500th post.
Even though I am a technical writer, I feel like I don't write for fun that much. I try to use this blog as an outlet for my writing, and I'm hoping to start doing that more from time to time. I'm not sure exactly how I'll do that, but at least I know that this is here for that.
As most of you know, I have always loved taking pictures, which is why it hasn't been too hard for me to keep up with Project 365. The only problem is that I've been posting a lot of pictures lately, and I've run out of space on my photo hosting site, which is why I keep getting behind in my weekly posts. So, I guess I'm going to have to find an alternative. That means you might be seeing some slight changes to my pictures in the near future, but hopefully you won't be able to tell at all.
Thanks for reading, everyone! :)

Birthdays, Girl Scouts, and Mavericks
Wednesday, June 8
John and the kids surprised me by bringing lunch to me at work today. Jack was very interested in my keyboard, and Mara drew a picture for me on my whiteboard. That evening, we met Paul and Michelle and their kids for dinner at Rainforest Cafe.
Thursday, June 9
We've been watching the Dallas Mavericks making their playoff run in the NBA finals this year. It's been neat to see the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the NBA finals all played locally this past year. It's also been nice to see the Rangers and Mavericks, both teams that I've rooted for since the early '90s, do well this year.
Friday, June 10
We went to Steak 'n' Shake for dinner tonight where Mara enjoyed a steakburger and a cookies & cream shake.
Saturday, June 11
Today was a busy day. We started off with a birthday party for our friends' 3-year-old twins, and then Mara and I met up with the Girl Scouts for a service project. We decorated pots and then added the plants we've been growing the past couple of months for the residents of a retirement home. Afterward, we went and celebrated Mindy and Ben's birthdays.
Sunday, June 12
We took the kids to Target today, and we put Jack beside Mara in the kids cart. As Mara pointed out, this was only his second time riding in the cart, and even though he may not look like it in the picture, he really likes being beside Mara in the cart. We went home and watch the Mavericks win the NBA championship later that evening.
