Outstanding Leader Award

We had our annual Girl Scout Leadership dinner tonight, and I was surprised to be given an Outstanding Leader Award. I knew my fellow leader, Laura, was getting it because I nominated her, but I didn't realize that she remembered to nominate me. :)

As a reward for nominating Laura, I received a pin with the image of a Girl Scout on it. Laura also presented me with her end-of-year gift to me – part of the official adult volunteer uniform, including a scarf, a volunteer pin, and the insignia tab with the appropriate pins. Now we can be "official" at our Brownie bridging ceremony later this week.

Another Award

A year ago, I was given my first awards as a technical writer. I found out today that I won yet another award. This time, I received it for an online help system that I've been working on since 2000. Sadly, I no longer work on that project because it's officially with another division of the company, but I'm still proud to see that all of my effort has resulted in another award.

I didn't think to take a picture of my award before I handed it over to my manager, so here is the logo I can now post on things saying I won. :)

Our Self Manager

Mara's school has a thing they call "self managers." These are the kids who show the traits of an exemplary student, and they earn signatures each time they do. When they get one row of signatures for each of the eight traits, they become a blue self manager. If they fill up the entire back of the folder, they are green. Another set of signatures makes them a yellow self manager, and filling up the back of the folder twice makes them a double yellow self manager.

While Mara has had ups and downs this year, she decided in April that she wanted the become a self manager. She worked hard getting her signatures, and she earned her final three today, the last day she could earn signatures and become a self manager in kindergarten. It was fitting that her final signature came from her art teacher, which is her favorite subject at school. She got a Rapunzel/Flynn/Maximus playset as a reward from us for becoming a self manager. Now that she knows what it takes to become a self manager, she's confident she can be at least a green self manager last year, and that means we'll have a bumper sticker to put on the back of the van. :)

Award Winning Writer

I just found out that one of the documents I wrote for work won an "Award of Excellence." While I've been working here for almost 10 years now, we just recently started entering our documents for judging, and this is my first technical writing award with my name on it. I kind of won the first time we submitted anything last fall, but my name wasn't on the award because someone else updated the document after I wrote it. They're supposed to get that fixed, but that happened well before I went on maternity leave and haven't heard anything since, so I'm not holding my breath. :) I have the feeling that I would have won one for my own document if it had been entered in the correct category, but at least I have this one now.

ETA 7/12: We finally got our other award in (with my name on it too), so we took a couple pictures of us with our awards.
