First of all, yes, I think we've settled on a name for our new kitten, and we're going with Doxy.
Anyway, John took Doxy to the vet yesterday, and he said she's about 5-6 weeks old. She's a little over a pound, in very good health, and was well fed. She did have fleas until we gave her a bath last night, but she still has one or two on her. She also has worms, but we can't really treat those until she's a little older. She goes back to the vet in a couple of weeks.
Mara is falling more in love with Doxy each minute. Surprisingly, Mara is very gentle with her and likes to try to cuddle with her. She's still not too sure about Doxy's claws, though.
So, Doxy seems to be fitting into our life quite well. It should be a little easier once she can actually interact with Brownie, Pixie, and Puck. The vet said to give her 7-10 days before introducing her to the others. so far, the older three have all hissed and growled at her, so we'll see how that goes. :)

A new addition
When John got home from work today, he told me he wanted to show me something. I turned around to see that he was holding a box. I looked in the box, and there was a little kitten in there. John told me that when he pulled into the driveway, he noticed a box behind our fence, sticking out into the alleyway. He went to pick up the box to put it in our recycling bin when he felt something go thump in it, and then there was a little "mew."
We decided that someone dumped the kitty. She's pretty young (probably about 6 weeks old or so), and the box had been folded so she couldn't get out. Plus, the box wasn't there when John went back to work just three hours earlier.
I wasn't sure what we were going to do with her at first, but she's so cute and Mara immediately fell in love with her "little kitty." So, I guess we're going to keep her. John's going to take her to the vet to have her checked out tomorrow. Aside from a couple of fleas, she seems perfectly healthy to us. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Happy (Belated) Birthday, John!
I realized I forgot to wish my hubby of 10 years a happy 32nd birthday here on our blog. Don't worry, I wished him happy birthday numerous times on his actual birthday (last Thursday), and we celebrated it this weekend, so I'm sure he knows he's loved. :)
I was disappointed I couldn't give him a present that I really wanted him to have, but I just can't make myself pregnant if it's not in God's timing. However, I think he had a good birthday anyway.

Jesus, spaghetti, and playing at the park
I know it's a strange title for a post, but it wraps up our Sunday quite nicely. :)
After worrying what kind of weather we would have this weekend thanks to Hurricane Ike, yesterday turned out to be a really beautiful day here.
My dad picked us up to go to church since Lori was getting her third grade bible. We got to the church (aka Mara's school) early, so we went and hung out at a garden that they recently completed that has a huge statue of Jesus in it. Every day after we pick up Mara from school, she always wants to go see Jesus. So, I took this opportunity to get some pictures of her with Jesus.
There's also a fountain there, and Mara conned Granddad out of a few coins to put in the fountain.
After church, we went to Friday's for lunch. Both Mara and Lani got spaghetti, and they really enjoyed it.
Later that afternoon, I decided to take Mara to the park down the street from us. It had been a while since we had been there because it had been so hot the last few months, but it was a great day yesterday.
Mara even showed me how she can now climb up on the "big" equipment all by herself now. I used to have to pick her up and set her on the platform, which is about even with my chin, but I no longer have to do that. I can't believe how big she's getting! (Also, notice the perfect colors of the sky and grass in these pictures – and I didn't touch it up at all.)

When I grow up...
Mara has already decided what she wants to be when she grows up. She wants to be a whale trainer and a sister. That's one of the reasons why she insisted on getting her picture taken with the trainers when we were at SeaWorld last weekend.
We will completely support her if that's still what she wants to be as she gets older, and hopefully we can make her dream to be a sister come true one of these days as well.

SeaWorld (again)
Get ready for another picture-filled post. :)
John was able to get a few days off around Labor Day (finally!), so we decided to head down to San Antonio yet again and make use of our season passes to SeaWorld.
We left Thursday and stopped at the Dr Pepper museum in Waco on our way down to San Antonio. We originally planned to tour the capitol that day but got a later start since we took my dad to the eye doctor. I think it was a good trade-off. :) While at the Dr Pepper museum, Mara got to enjoy an old-fashioned fountain Dr Pepper.
After touring the museum, it was back on the road to San Antonio. We got to our hotel, and got ready to go to SeaWorld the next day.
This is the first time to go to SeaWorld since Mara turned 3, so we decided to buy her a season pass since we intend to go back down there in December. Well, Labor day weekend is the start of their fall season, so they only had 2009 passes available (with fall 2008 for free – just like we got last year). We needed to get her a pass, so we proceeded with that since it would have cost us the same anyway. The lady who was helping us told us that it was the last weekend we could renew our own season passes for next year at a discounted rate. So, we ended up getting Mara a season pass, renewed our passes, and have a parking pass all for the same amount we spent to get our passes and the parking pass for this year. If they keep the same rates, it will actually save us money to continue getting the season passes each year even if we only come for one visit. (Not only was the renewal cheaper than a one-day pass, but we also get coupon books and 10% off all food and merchandise at SeaWorld.)
But back to our trip. Since this was our third trip to SeaWorld in less than a year, we felt pretty comfortable with the ways things worked. One thing we hadn't noticed before, though, was that we could get our pictures taken with various animals around the park without paying extra (except the cost of the pictures themselves).
We got to pose with a 19-year-old sea lion named Dillion who plays Seymore in the sea lion, walrus, and otter show. After the pictures, we even got to pet him.
We wanted to do the pictures with the beluga whales, but they weren't doing those since both of them had babies just four weeks earlier (press release). (Sadly, one of the babies died the previous Thursday.) Luckily, though, we did get to see the baby as Saturday was the first day they reopened the dolphin and beluga show since the birth. We'll definitely try to get our pictures with a beluga the next time we go back. In the meantime, here are some pictures of the baby beluga.
What's really neat is that most of the performers will come out beside the tanks after a performance and talk to people. This time, Mara decided that she wanted to have her picture taken with some of them. She didn't decide until part way through Saturday, so we don't have any with the dolphin and beluga trainers, but we'll make sure to get those the next time we go. An interesting note, though, is that one of the dolphin trainers, who we spoke to Saturday morning, is also the person who hosts a couple of the Shamu videos Mara has.

The "clown" (and also the choreographer) of the "Viva!" show. We've talked to him on several occasions now and still haven't gotten his name. :)

Some of you may remember seeing the pictures of Mara with the baby killer whale, Hayln, from our trip back in March. Sadly, we found out after we came home after this trip that Halyn died back in June. On a positive note, there may be a new killer whale calf born in 15-18 months (or whatever the gestation period is for killer whales) after what we saw Saturday night before the show. ;) Here are some pictures from one of the many shows we attended.
Mara loved feeding the dolphins, and she kept asking to do it. Here are some pictures of her. There were four babies in the dolphin tank – three were about a year old and another only 12 weeks old.
Mara also got to touch a Burmese python.
We decided to go back Sunday morning as well to catch a show we weren't able to fit in the previous two days. Right after we got there, we also got to pose with the Shamu that walks around the park. Mara wasn't too sure about it, but she definitely wanted her picture taken.
All in all, it was a really fun trip, and now we know that we'll keep coming back.
