It's been a while since I've updated this blog, but there's a good reason for that. On July 20, 2007, my mother died. She had been in and out of the hospital for the past five months starting with a staph infection back in February. We were given news on July 17 that she wouldn't be with us much longer because her breathing changed and she just wasn't getting the oxygen and other necessities her body required. After three whirlwind days, my dad called me at about 5:50 Friday morning to let me know that she passed away sometime between 5 and 5:45 while he was sleeping on the couch in her hospital room.
During my mom's last three days, we spent so many hours meeting with people from hospice, the church, and the funeral home as well as calling friends and family to let them know of her condition and deciding on final arrangements. I think my mom could sense a peace about the family when we finally knew what we were going to do, and that is when she decided it was time to leave us.
My mom's memorial service was held at First United Methodist Church of Richardson on Wednesday, July 25. It was a great service with the kids being kids and bringing a smile to everyone's face. Actually, one of the best things to come out of all of this is the bond between Mara and her cousin Lani. Those two are always asking to see each other (and they have gotten to play together at least 3-4 times a week recently). They've even talked to each other on the phone.
If you would like to read the obituary of a wonderful woman who loved her family and children in general, you can read it here. She is really going to be missed, but we know that she is in a much better place now and no longer has to worry about her health.
I miss you, Mother!
